Visiting Specialists
Our visiting specialists and consultants have undergone extensive post graduate training in their particular disciplines and are highly experienced in their fields.
They run weekly referral clinics at Highcroft where they see cases referred by veterinary surgeons from all over the south west, including our own.

Diagnostic Imaging (Ultrasound)
Margaret Costello MVB DVR DipECVDI MRCVS is a recognised RCVS Specialist who holds a European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ultrasound), placing her at the top of her profession.
Margaret visits the practice once a week to perform ultrasound scans on patients that are referred to her by our veterinary surgeons for any number of reasons (for example abdominal and thoracic conditions, suspected liver or kidney disease, tumours or malformation of internal organs).
Unlike x-ray, ultrasound produces a moving picture and shows the difference between fluid and soft tissue. Ultrasound also shows the internal architecture of solid organs such as the liver, but it does not penetrate the bone and cannot, therefore, be used to diagnose skeletal diseases.
Margaret uses ultrasound to look at the area of concern and diagnose the cause of the problem (for example a tumour on the liver, or a malformation of the kidneys). Our veterinary surgeons (who work with her throughout the procedure) then use the information and diagnosis to recommend any further treatments and procedures required.
In addition, we can take biopsies guided by the ultrasound using special biopsy needles.
Margaret has been working with us for 5 or 6 years now, and we are fortunate to have such an authority helping us to provide one of the very best diagnostic services available in the country.
