EXAMPLES OF UNEXPECTED VETS BILLS
It is estimated by the Pet Health Council that at least 1 in 3 pets needs non-routine veterinary treatment at least once a year.
Like us they can fall ill at any time and are often prone to accidents.
Below are two examples of cases that we have dealt with, neither of which are unusual, both of which resulted in large veterinary bills. Unfortunately neither of these pets were insured which is why we urge you to consider whether you can afford not to insure your pet!
A four year old cat was brought to us having been hit by a car. He had seriously damaged an eye and fractured his jaw.
He was hospitalised for 2 months, during which time we had to remove his eye, wire his jaw and tube feed him via his nose. He needed lots of pain killers, intensive nursing care and antibiotics. Fortunately he made a full recovery, but the veterinary bill came to around £1800.
Pet Insurance would have covered this.
A large Neapolitan Mastiff visited the practice with his owner who was concerned that the dog was rather quiet and not eating. We x-rayed his stomach to discover that he had eaten 2 snooker balls, one of which he vomited, the other had to be surgically removed.
This involved hospitalisation for one week with general anaesthetic, surgery, medication, pain relief and nursing, accumulating in a bill of over £1000 for the owner.
Pet Insurance would have covered this.
These are just two examples of unexpected situations that we have dealt with; we have many cases we can tell you about, and an endless list of common conditions which can be covered by insurance including: diabetes, epilepsy, skin conditions, kidney disease, arthritis, heart disease, pancreatitis, ear infections, etc.
